Why it wins
Your Steam library, on an OLED screen, on a couch, with suspend/resume that treats 30-second play sessions as first-class. Valve's SteamOS does the impossible: PC gaming with console simplicity, and the OLED revision fixed battery life and screen — the original's only real complaints.
Watch out for
Heavy AAA releases need settings humility — this is 800p hardware by design, brilliant at 30–60fps medium, not a 4K rig. Non-Steam launchers (Game Pass especially) require tinkering the Ally crowd doesn't face.
ASUS ROG Ally X Gaming Handheld
Why it wins
The Windows handheld that fixed the original Ally's flaws: far bigger battery, more RAM, better ergonomics, same bright 120Hz 1080p screen. It runs your entire PC library — Steam, Game Pass, every launcher — natively, with more raw power than a Steam Deck.
Watch out for
Windows on a handheld is still fiddly (touch targets, updates, sleep quirks) versus SteamOS. Battery life, while much improved, still drops fast in demanding AAA games.
Our verdict
The Deck OLED is the better product; the Ally X is the better computer. SteamOS means the Deck just works — suspend/resume, battery life, a store curated for the hardware. The Ally X's Windows runs Game Pass, every launcher, and mods natively, with more raw power, at the cost of constant fiddling. People who want a console: Deck. People who enjoy tinkering and own a Game Pass sub: Ally X.
